Home Safe operates 12 Emergency Shelter beds to provide short term care to children who have been removed from home as a result of an abuse or neglect allegation. Emergency Shelter services are offered in a community based, licensed residence, and provide 24 hour awake supervision, counseling, and support to respond to the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social needs of the children. The shelters are able to admit children at any hour, 7 days a week.
Shelter services provide basic board and care and are staffed by Youth Development Professionals who are trained to meet the emotional and developmental needs of the children. A behavior management system is in place to provide structure and reinforce behavioral expectations. Older children attend public school and a pre-school is available for younger children. Upon admission a comprehensive individualized service plan is developed for each child with goals and objectives to meet their immediate needs. Children receive a thorough health screening within 72 hours of admission and shelter staff monitor and provide transportation to appointments for follow-up care. Each shelter designs a monthly activity calendar with age appropriate recreational and social events in the community. Other specialty services provided include: Nutrition consultation, referrals for speech and physical therapies, referrals for psychiatric assessments, problem solving and anger management groups, and an on-going cultural art series with the Center for Creative Education.
Shelters are located in Boca Raton. Bed capacity and age groups are as follows:
